Water Engineering Technician
Columbia Power & Water Systems (CPWS) is a public utility proudly serving the citizens of Columbia and Maury County Tennessee since 1939. CPWS is recruiting a Water Engineering Technician to inspect and oversee all outside contractor work for Columbia Water System, prepare construction plans, and support the Water Distribution department with internal design, installation, and maintenance of water infrastructure.
This position subject to standby, afterhours, and/or emergency call out. Water Engineering Technicians must meet residency requirements (must reside within a CPWS service territory or Maury County).
The primary duties & responsibilities of this position include:
- Inspect all contractor work
- Design and draft water distribution system extensions
- Maintain water distribution maps
- Prepare, maintain, and review all paperwork related to new development records and documentation required by TDEC
- Prepare as-built drawings
- Flow fire hydrants and blow-offs
- Perform computer analysis of the water distribution system
- Prepare and review preliminary or final site plan preparation
- Perform hydraulic calculations
- Draw highway permits
- Assist water construction with system maintenance and meter changes as needed
- Collects GPS data on newly installed water infrastructure
- Other duties as assigned
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit at a desk or table for up to 8 hours per day
- Ability to lift 0 – 100 pounds for 2 hours a day
- Ability to lift and/or carry objects weighing 0 – 25 pounds for 6 hours a day
- Ability to walk
- Ability to stand for 8 hours a day
- Ability to talk, see, and hear
- Ability to stoop, kneel, and crouch for long periods of time
- Ability to navigate and operate in confined spaces such as trenches, pits, manholes, etc., which may require bending, crawling, and maneuvering in tight areas
- Ability to work inside and outside and be exposed to noisy places, fumes, chemicals, toxic substances, and machinery
- Ability to be exposed to weather conditions that are cold, hot, rainy, and windy?
Education, Experience, and Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Maintain a valid State of Tennessee Driver’s License; driving record must meet the requirements to be covered by CPWS liability insurance.
- Tennessee Department of Environment & Conservation Certificate of Backflow Prevention Assemblies required
- Tennessee Department of Environment & Conservation Grade II Distribution System Operator Certificate required
- 3+ years of experience in water distribution or maintenance required
- Proficient in Word, Excel, and operating various computer programs and tools
- Associate degree in engineering or engineering classes preferred
