Lewis Carroll Classic Comes to Life Onstage
Watershed Public Theatre’s Season opens with Alice in Wonderland
Watershed Public Theatre (WPT) kicks off their 2019-20 season with a stage adaptation of Lewis Carroll’s classic novel Alice in Wonderland. The professional theatre company will present weekday performances for schools and homeschool groups September 19-27. Public performances run September 27 and 28 at 7:00 pm, September 28 and 29 at 3:00 pm at Columbia State Community College’s Ledbetter Auditorium in Columbia, Tennessee.
Chapel Hill native and Columbia State graduate TiAnna Cotton will take the stage in the title role of Alice. “Taking on this role is a very exciting and rewarding challenge for me,” said Cotton. “I don’t think I have ever had to learn this many lines in my life, so I was a bit apprehensive about being Alice at first, but after meeting the director and this fantastic cast, those fears have melted away… for the most part. Everyone is so energetic, and their enthusiasm helps me bring out my inner child and strengthens my resolve to give my very best performance. I am extremely grateful and happy to be a part of this beautifully insane show. As Alice would say, ‘It’s like a game without rules.’”
Alice in Wonderland is directed by Shannon Bain of Leiper’s Fork, Tennessee. Joining TiAnna Cotton in the cast are local actors Iordanis Ekimogloy, Maryanne Goldsmith, Molly Gould, Mark Henderson, Reagan Horn, Megan Roberts, Alex White and Taylor Grace Wise.
WPT will be partnering with Pet Pals of Maury County to collect dog and cat food at the 7:00 pm performance on Saturday, September 27. Anyone who brings a donation of dog or cat food to that performance will receive 25% off their entire ticket purchase. “It seems like a natural fit to help raise awareness about the Pet Pals mission with this story that features so many animal characters such as the Cheshire Cat and White Rabbit,” stated WPT Executive Director Kate Foreman. “We’re pleased to partner with Pet Pals, a great local nonprofit that, among other things, provides pet food to seniors in need.”
In addition to Alice in Wonderland, WPT’s 2019-20 season features Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar & Grill February 28-March 8, 2020, and Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet June 19-28, 2020. Season membership passes include three tickets redeemable at any time during the 2019-20 season plus other benefits; memberships are available in four levels ranging from $25 to $75.
