Description

King?s Daughters? Sponsors Free Children?s Performances? Nashville Opera, February 3 and Nashville Ballet, March 3 Columbia, TN (January 12, 2015) --- The King?s Daughters? School is sponsoring a free performance of the Nashville Opera on Tuesday, February 3, 2015 and the Nashville Ballet on Tuesday, March 3, 2015. The opera, Jack and the Beanstalk, begins at 6:30 p.m. and will be held in the Cherry Theater of the Waymon Hickman Building at Columbia State Community College. The ballet, Carnival of Animals, will also begin at 6:30 at the Cherry Theater. In Jack and the Beanstalk, Jack is told to give up his best friend, a cow, to buy food. Disobeying his mother, he trades the cow for magical beans instead and ends up meeting a giant and his wife atop the beanstalk. There he finds out it is the same giant who stole his hen that laid golden eggs! All ends happily when Jack learns a lesson or two and the giant sees the error of his ways and apologizes for being a bully. This opera teaches kids the timeless lesson of ?The Golden Rule?. Carnival of Animals is an engaging children's ballet that explores the value of diversity through the perspective of the mighty lion. The "King of the Jungle" cannot understand why everyone isn?t exactly like him, but a wise and patient bird introduces the lion to a host of creatures?including an elephant, swan and fish?to teach him that we are all unique, and it?s exactly those differences that make life interesting. With choreography by Paul Vasterling set to Camille Saint-Saens well-known composition of the same name, children and their families will follow the lion's journey through the jungle all while learning some of life's most important lessons. Admission to both performances is free, and the event is open to the public. The performances are geared towards children, but we welcome people of all ages to attend. No tickets or reservations are required. The opera and the ballet are AIM (Arts in Maury) performances presented by KDS and the Tennessee Arts Commission. The AIM Performances are designed to connect Maury County to the arts. KDS Executive Director David Craig says this of the upcoming performances, ?We are thrilled to have the opera and ballet returning this year. The students at King?s Daughters? School always enjoy the performances, and we are excited to make this opportunity available to the community. We appreciate Columbia State for helping make this possible.? The AIM Performances are funded in part by Arts Build Communities?a program funded by the Tennessee General Assembly and administered by the Tennessee Arts Commission. Sponsors of the performances are Columbia State Community College and the Maury County Union of The King?s Daughters and Sons.
