Description
On October 12th, 1997 singer/songwriter JOHN DENVER was killed in a plane crash in Monterrey Bay Calif. His music gave him worldwide fame and also his love for nature and his desire to stamp out hunger did the same. His music touched people of all ages. HE HAD 14 GOLD AND 8 PLATINUM ALBUMS AND WAS CONSIDERED RCA Records’ Golden Boy because he sold more records than anyone in RCA history. One person he influenced was local songwriter/singer Kenny Durham.
You can tell in Kenny's music and performances. Back in the day, Kenny actually looked like John Denver and that just made it more fun for Kenny.
To this day, he still performs a lot of John's music along with his own.
Kenny was so touched by John’s untimely death that he wrote a song about is musical hero, GOOD BYE JOHN, and decided that he would do his part in keeping John Denver music alive. So every year on or around the date of John Denver’s death, Kenny and his band do a John Denver Tribute. Each year it gets bigger and better. He has the cream of the crop when it comes to musicians in the show. Terry Peevyhouse Bassist has traveled and played with Country Legends, Bob Ocker; Lead Guitar/Mandolin/Lap steel musician, traveled and played with LEGEND Dolly Parton and also appeared several times on The David Letterman and the Tonite Show. Graham Russell Keyboard has the same story; been around the legends. Percussionist Josh Watkins is a Professor at Belmont University in the music department and plays steel pans also. The band is aptly named, CREAM OF THE CROP".
If you have not been to one of Kenny's John Denver Tribute shows you are missing a good time and a blast from the past.
